Mattituck Jr.-Sr. High School was designated as a 2024-2025 School of Excellence by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. The School of Excellence status requires that at least 75% of a school’s varsity teams receive the Scholar-Athlete Team Award. To earn the Scholar Athlete Team Award, 75% of a team’s players must have acquired a grade point average equal to or greater than 90% during their respective seasons. Mattituck Jr.-Sr. High School has 18 varsity teams.
This award reflects the commitment, discipline and sportsmanship our student-athletes demonstrate each day,” Mattituck-Cutchogue Union Free School District
Superintendent of Schools Shawn Petretti said. “We are incredibly proud of our coaches, athletes and families for making this recognition possible. ”Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Greggory Wormuth said he gives credit to the teachers, staff and students for this achievement, but it is the students whose management of their priorities and commitments garners this status of excellence. “It takes a lot of time management to make sure that both academic and athletic
priorities are met, and the athletes do a fine job each year,” Mr. Wormuth said. “It really is the culture of this district and something for which we are very proud.”
