Superintendent's Message
November 2025
Dear Mattituck-Cutchogue-Laurel Families,
As we move deeper into the fall season and approach the holidays, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the start of another school year for our students, faculty, and staff. Opening our buildings back up and welcoming students to a new school year is always exciting and rewarding, as their youthful energy flows through our hallways, classrooms, and athletic fields. Our students have settled into their routines and continue to impress us with their effort, creativity, and accomplishments.
Unveiling finalized summer projects such as the Junior High School facia and cupola project, as well as our classroom modernization projects through LED lighting installation, shades replacement and the continuation of classroom painting was rewarding as well. Our Buildings and Grounds Department always does an excellent job and they take tremendous pride in preparing our facilities for the return of students.
Everything we do at M-C is truly a team effort, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in our school community for creating unique educational opportunities and memories for a lifetime by organizing and participating in numerous special events such as our September 11th Remembrance Ceremony, First Responder Appreciation Day, our open houses, parent group meetings, the annual bonfire, Tucker Bowl, and Homecoming games. The new school year started off at full speed with all the traditional Tucker activities as well as some new ones. So much goes into providing a well-rounded education for our students and your ongoing support and involvement is always appreciated.
On behalf of our Board of Education, I encourage all stakeholders to attend our upcoming Board of Education meetings. These meetings take place at the Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium on the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 PM and include important topics such as curriculum updates, the Five-Year Facilities and Strategic Plans, District Goals and the upcoming annual school budget. Stay informed and never hesitate to contact my office with any questions or concerns.
Warm regards,
Shawn C. Petretti
