Posted on 10/22/2020

Dear Families,

This afternoon the District was notified that a student at Mattituck Jr/Sr High School tested positive for COVID-19. Due to privacy laws, information regarding this individual’s identity cannot be released.

In order to conduct contact tracing, and to disinfect the school, Mattituck Jr/Sr High School will be closed tomorrow, October 23, 2020 for staff and students. We are currently working closely with the Suffolk County Department of Health to determine close contacts of the confirmed positive student. Individuals deemed to be a “close contact” will be notified directly by either the Suffolk County Department of Health and/or the District. The individual, who has tested positive for COVID-19 will not be allowed to return to school for at least 10 days or after a negative test result has been provided to the district.

As we conduct our contact tracing and until the Suffolk County Department of Health has completed its investigation, students are reminded to adhere to social distancing rules, wear facemasks when unable to maintain 6-feet of distance, and avoid social gatherings among groups of Mattituck Jr/Sr High School students.

Tomorrow, all students (blue and gold) will log into their Google Classrooms according to their schedules provided by Mr. Petretti for asynchronous learning. Teachers will communicate the expectations for their classes in the Google Classroom.

BOCES students will not be transported and will stay home tomorrow.

As always, the health and safety of our students and staff is our utmost priority. We are closely monitoring this situation and will provide you with updates as we learn more.

Kind regards,

Jill. M. Gierasch
Superintendent of Schools
