Assessment Information and Refusal Process

This spring, the New York State Grades 3-8 English Language Arts and Mathematics tests will be administered to students. These annual tests are designed to measure how well students are mastering the NYS Next Generation Learning Standards. Grade 3 students’ exams will be paper based, while Grades 4-8 will be computer based.  

The schedule for the exams is as follows:

ELA ;                                                                       Mathematics 

March 24 and 25 – Grade 7                                     April 21 and 22 – Grades 3, 5 and 7 

March 25 and 26 – Grades 3 and 5                           April 23 and 24 – Grades 4, 6 and 8  

March 26 and 27 – Grade 8  

March 30 and 31- Grade 4, Grade 6                   

 On each of the two days of ELA and Math testing, students will be afforded unlimited time to complete the exam. However, based on our experience, the estimated time that it may take students to complete each day by grade is listed below:  

ELA Grades 3-4         70 minutes each day 

Math Grades 3-4       55-70 minutes each day 

ELA Grades 5-8         60-90 minutes each day 

Math Grades 5-8      70-80 minutes each day
