Board of Education Monthly Meeting:
Thursday, June 14th

6:30pm in the Mattituck Jr/Sr High School Library

Welcome to the Mattituck-Cutchogue School District

Ralph Peterson states, in his timeless book, Life in a Crowded Place: "Community in itself is more important to learning than any method or technique." He is referring to the importance of quality curriculum and instruction within a well-established and safe community for learning. At Mattituck-Cutchogue UFSD, we strive to create a safe and welcoming environment. Diversity, interdependence and creativity are all valued in our classrooms.

Everywhere I go in this community, I am greeted by students, families, alumni, and community members who are clearly proud and feel a part of our schools in the context of larger community of the North Fork.

Every member of our community is critical to our success. Our mission is clear to help each other help our students develop academic excellence, confidence and resiliency to face future challenges in order to contribute to and inspire positive change in the local and global community. Academic and social emotional learning are both essential in our work.

We have much to offer the community of public education in New York. We have a responsibility to share what works well here with other schools, districts, and policy makers. We look forward to being part of the larger discussions given the current climate in public education. We commit to keeping our focus on our students and their needs. While scores and accountability policy at the State level have our attention, be assured that we are focused on the students and their families while striving to make each day the best it can for our children.

We appreciate the support and engagement from our community and look forward to partnerships which can make our district the best it can be, always striving for continuous improvement.

Anne H. Smith, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
