Superintendent's Message

October 2023

Dear Mattituck-Cutchogue School Community,

Shawn Petretti, Superintendent MUFSDAs we head into the holiday season, it is an appropriate time to reflect on the opening of our schools and the start of another school year for our students, faculty, and staff.  It is always exciting to open our buildings back up and this year was extra special as we celebrated the finalization of summer projects with ribbon cutting ceremonies for the new playgrounds at Cutchogue East and the renovated STEM Wing at Mattituck High School. Our schools are like a second home for our students and seeing the looks on their faces as they set their eyes on the playgrounds and STEM Wing are something I will never forget.

School spirit was at a peak in October and both buildings celebrated Homecoming, Spirit Week and the annual Tucker Bowl.  We also celebrated our Varsity Athletic programs as all our teams were named Scholar Athlete teams.  Our music programs remain strong with high participation district-wide in both chorus and band.  Building-wide student assemblies have also returned as has our Day of Service for our Seniors.  We also had the pleasure of inviting the families of our alumni and staff who have served our country in the armed forces for our annual Veteran's Day Wall of Honor ceremony.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite everyone in our school community to visit our schools and attend our upcoming Winter concerts.  Watching the children perform is sure to lift the spirits and get everyone in the holiday mood.  Cutchogue East hosts their Winter concerts on December 12th and 13th with the Junior High hosting theirs on the 19th and the High School on the 20th.  All concerts begin at 7PM.

On behalf of our Board of Education, I encourage all stakeholders to attend our upcoming Board of Education meetings.  These meetings take place at the Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium on the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 PM and include important topics such as curriculum updates, the Five-Year Facilities Plan, and the upcoming annual school budget.  We would also like to wish everyone the very best and the warmest of holiday seasons as we celebrate with family, friends, and loved ones.

Tucker Pride!
